The Graham School of General Studies is proud to offer a Certificate in Human Capital Management for executives, line managers, HR professionals, and others interested in developing comprehensive talent management programs for their organizations. The overview course in this certificate program outlines the key conceptual and historic changes that have led to the current interest in human capital as a key component of organizational effectiveness and competitive advantage. This course draws on the landmark studies of human capital, including the work of University of Chicago Nobel prizewinners Gary Becker (Economics, 1992) and Theodore Schultz (Economics, 1979).Courses discuss key issues relating to human capital management, including the diversity of groups making up the current workforce, creation of assessment systems to quantify the skill sets and deficits of current workers, design and implementation of an overall talent management program (from recruitment to succession planning), and the methodology for conducting an in depth analysis of return on investment (ROI) for people-focused initiatives. A course on designing and implementing change management programs to facilitate the acceptance of human capital initiates rounds out the offerings of the certificate program.
